When you look at my paintings I want you to see the process behind the work even more than I want you to see the finished picture. This is because visual art should transcend the common  task of picture making. It is not the artist's job to make pretty pictures; there are plenty of craftsman and technicians out there that can push pretty colors around on a canvas. The artist's job is to try to contribute to our understanding of the world around us. whether this is through visual, lyrical, poetic, or literal means it does not matter.

Therefore I hope that when you look at my pictures you do not ask yourself "how" I put the lettering or the images in the pictures but rather "why." Do not worry about getting the answer right. I have my reasons for what I chose to include in my pictures but this may differ from the reasons you may have for understanding the "why" you see them there.
